Who says Thai people can’t fight MMA?!…Have you seen Ngoo Ditty yet?!
…Proud of Ngoo. When I first met Ngoo in 2007–he spoke zero English, and had never even been on an airplane…to state it simply…he was country folk :)
Ngoo…is not a World Champion Muay Thai fighter. As a matter of fact, he has never even fought Muay Thai in Bangkok–the premier home for Muay Thai. That being said, he is a veteran of over 150 professional full rules Thai fights–and has several notable wins, including a viscous KO against K-1 Max fighter Jae Hee Cheon (Jackie Sinbimuaythai).
When I first came to Thailand I wanted to find a few Thai’s who were willing to learn a new form of fighting. Most of the World Champion Thai fighters at Tiger Muay Thai were already involved in their sport at an elite level–and did not have the time to cross train wrestling, BJJ, and the other combat sports that make ‘MMA’–Mixed Martial Arts.
Ngoo was different. He wanted to learn. Slowly Ngoo became more comfortable with ‘Falangs’ (foreigners) and he began to improve his English. With TMT sponsoring him to compete in BJJ and Subgrappling Tournaments, Ngoo eventually trained enough BJJ to earn the rank of Blue Belt in BJJ.
Competing as an amateur Ngoo has won the BBQ Beatdown belt several times, and has earned an impressive 14-2 amateur record. As a pro…everytime he has accepted a fight Internationally…he has been flown in to fight an opponent who was considered the ‘best in the country’ at his weight class.
Fighting in China’s Art Of War in 2007, Ngoo took a bout too early in his career against an opponent with too much experience. Losing to the 5-0 He Peng of China…Ngoo continued training.
Picking up a couple of wins–Ngoo recently suffered back to back losses. Losing to the 8-0 Kevin Belingon of the Philippines for the Singapore based Martial Combat promotion (shown on ESPN STAR Sport on TV in 24 countries to over 310 million homes)–and then suffering a devastating KO defeat to I-1 Muay Thai champion Irshaad Sayed in his MMA debut…
Ngoo was in desperate need of a win to build his confidence.
Even though he has been training since 2007…Ngoo has been unable to ‘train full time’—Ngoo is a husband and a father. He teaches Muay Thai to provide money for his family…at times—this has caused him to take breaks from ‘training MMA’—to focus on his families finances.
Looking to get back in the ring…Ngoo accepted a fight against former WMC Muay Thai champion Abbas Ahmadi in Malaysia’s first ever professional MMA fight. Abbas has fought TMT trainers Ritt and Thanwa in Muay Thai–losing on points both times. Ngoo a natural 132lbs (60KG) accepted the bout against Abbas who weighed in at 147lbs (67KG).
I’m very proud of Ngoo, who–despite being unable to train fulltime–year round as a professional fighter– picked up another International win–with BJJ Purple Belt Wiktor Svensson working his corner, bringing his professional MMA record to 3-3, with International fights in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and China…not bad for a guy who had never been on an airplane and couldn’t understand his English speaking instructor for awhile :P
Look for Ngoo to compete Domestically in Pattaya soon for Master Toddy’s ‘Fight Club’ promotion…more details to come.
