Training during Eid Holiday…in Kuwait

Eid Holiday?!?! What is that?!?!…I’m sure many of the followers of my blog are not familiar with Eid.  Eid is a holiday to celebrate the Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his young and only first born son in obedience to ca command from God.  Similar in reference for Christians to what Christmas would be in the USA, minus Christmas trees and crazy lines at Walmart.  Most families host gatherings with meals like brunch…Kinda like the 4PM turkey feast on Thanksgiving…loll!

Many families travel during the holidays and giving gifts is part of the culture.

This is my first Eid in Kuwait, and being away from my own family it reminds me that my Birthday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas are just around the corner.  The similarities of the celebrations are very similar in culture with lots of time being spent with Family and Loved ones.  Having traveled abroad and lived outside of the USA for most of the past 6 years, holiday’s seem to mean less to me than they did when I was a little kid.

That said, I’ve grown to enjoy training over the years, and during these times I really look forward to the time on the mat with friends.  I remember growing up and a big ‘holiday weekend’ would come up, often those weekends would lead to canceling of youth sports, various clubs, and other activities you participate in as a kid.  I remember them getting canceled, and I remember being disappointed that the ONE THING I was LOOKING FORWARD TO was postponed, highlighting the fact that I was one of the select few not needing it to be canceled…lol.

As an instructor, I really love running my own classes  I enjoy my time on the mat and seeing the improvement in my students is very gratifying, something that I find myself volunteering often to pioneer.  To summarize it, BJJ Changes lives, and once it does your #BJJ4LIFE.

So I will continue running my classes during this upcoming Eid.  To the students blessed with travels and times with the family, I wish you a blessed Eid and hope you enjoy your time.  Your friends will be waiting on the mats when you return…hopefully a few moves you haven’t seen yet :P
