Tiger Muay Thai picks up 2 MMA wins on ESPN STAR Sports!
Tiger Muay Thai and MMA took the show on the road again for an International Fight Card held at Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore. Working as Color Commentator for the ESPN broadcast, which will be shown in 24 different countries to a broadcast of over 310 million homes I was on the “outside looking in” as Assistant Instructor Andreas Hesselback worked the fighters corners.
The Martial Combat event was held over two days with four TMT fighters being represented.
In the Knockout of the Night, Tiger Muay Thai fighter Joe Ray of the Freestyle Fighting Academy in Miami Florida faced an accomplished World Champion Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt named Zoro Moreria of the Evolve gym. Zoro, one of the head MMA and Grappling instructors at the multimillion dollar Evolve Martial Arts training facility was a perfect 3-0 heading into the bout and was expected to showcase his grappling in a matchup against TMT’s striking specialist. Joe Ray taking the center of the cage landed a perfect left hook-straight right combination against Zoro, who has been cross training in Muay Thai under Chatri Sityodtong for the last 6 months, crumbling him to the mat. 14 seconds after the bout began, it was all over with Joe Ray improving his MMA record to 3-0 with a devastating KO victory.
In the other matchup of the night, Ian Bone of Australia saw his professional MMA record fall to 9-4 when he lost to American Matt Delanoit via RNC. Ian suffering from a bad case of “Pink Eye” was unable to train at full steam leading up to the bout, and it showed during the bout. Getting takendown off the fence Ian attempted several triangle attempts before having his back taken and being forced to submit.
Day 2 of the Martial Combat event featured TMT Alumni Muhsin Corbbrey against a Chinese World Sanda Champion named Wu Cheng Jie. Corbbrey a WEC and Elite XC veteran dominated the fight from start to finish, showboating in the ring as he chased down the running fighter from one section of the cage to the next. After having a kick caught Corbbrey was tripped to the mat where he quickly transitioned to an armbar before giving up the submission for position. Taking mount Corbbrey finished the bout via TKO with a series of brutal elbows from on top.
Falling to 0-4 in professional MMA, Cyrus Washington had a tough matchup when he faced Legacy Gym’s head grappling instructor Malik Malawai. Cyrus a veteran of over 50+ Muay Thai fights struggled to stop the takedown before losing by RNC halfway through round 1.
