#Ramadan in #Kuwait break fast!
Those of you guys following the blog know I was in another Muslim country last year for Ramadan. Due to the days it fell on that year I wasn’t in the Kuwaiti heat of July.
While Malaysia is considered a “Muslim country”…After living in Kuwait I would say there is a big difference in the celebration of the religious month.
While in Malaysia, provided you weren’t Muslim, you could still eat–and actually many of the Chinese restaurants sold pork dishes (not that I really eat much pork)
Here in Kuwait…even if it is not Ramadan…you can not order pork. During Ramadan anyone caught eating, drinking, chewing gum, smoking cigarettes in the car or other public places can be arrested for up to 30 days. This goes for water too.
With the heat at 118 degrees…you can see the spike in road rage incidents already…lol
Today I was invited to my buddy Abe’s house to break fast with his family shortly after prayer. We started the meal with traditional dates, then got into the main dishes!
Was a great feeling. Having fasted the day it was fun sharing the experience and being welcomed into someone’s family.
While I won’t be fasting the entire month, I certainly admire the diligence of those who are able to display such an impressive amount of self control.
I can easily see how gym memberships suffer during Ramadan…lol…but the good news is…I will be announcing some new BJJ training opportunities for after Ramadan that will help drop those few extra pounds and get you set for your first strip on the ol’ white belt!
