Princess of Dubai competes in #BJJ tournament leading a new area for women in the gulf!
They say money can’t buy you happiness…but it can buy you Brazilian Jiu Jitsu lessons which is basically the same thing, LOL!
Her Highness Sheikha Maitha Bint Mohamed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum led by example this past weekend when she represented the UAE National team on her way to winning a silver medal in her division at the WPJJC. Sheikha Maitha is the daughter of the ruler of Dubai.
Joining over 1,000 competitors the world’s largest Brazilian Jiu Jitu competition in the world Her Highness Sheika Maitha Bint Mohamed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum, a former Olympian for Taekwon Do, showed just how liberating the sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can be, as over 147 girls from the UAE won medals in this years Children’s Cup.
Now that I am looking at continuing to pioneer the sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Kuwait for women looking to train BJJ for Fitness, Self Defense, Confidence, or competition at Kuwait Combat Athletics, it is wonderful that there is such an example for young Arab female athletes to look towards for inspiration and motivation. With the recent ruling that women can compete in the IBJJF wearing the Hijab, I expect to see the interest in the region continue to grow. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is such a great tool for helping give young individuals the tools they need to succeed in so many areas of their life.
From a Black Belt looking to pioneer the martial art in a new community, I want to thank Sheikha Maitha for getting on the mats and competing, I’m sure her participation has inspired young girls from around the region to pursue their passions.
