Off to BBQ Beatdown…
BBQ Beatdown has become a bit of a legendary thing around Tiger Muay Thai :)
Every month (usually on the full moon) TMT promotes an ALL YOU CAN EAT/DRINK BBQ with amateur fights. We do both MMA and Muay Thai fights. Tonight the MMA program has a four man tournament, and two feature bouts–so it should be exciting.
One of the guys in the four man tournament “Bonner”–has been feeling a bit sick, and has been doing a bit too much partying. He’s been at the gym awhile now…and the guys really pressured him into accepting the amateur fight…even though he “knows” his cardio isn’t in good condition.
Truthfully—I think it will be a good experience for him. Win or Lose–it’s forcing him to compete, and finally giving him an opportunity to evaluate what he needs to work on. Bonner–is good friends with “Milkman”…but he’s one of my students that always needs someone to push him along to achieve more. Hopefully–after this bout–win or lose–he’ll be SELF motivated. He’s been more focused the past couple of weeks–but as the coach…I’d still like to see him bring it up another notch–he has potential but needs to realize it.
**Along the lines of fighting with poor cardio**
…I got my fight uploaded from the other night. I wasn’t going to put it online because it was a loss–and a poor cardio performance…but ultimately I have nothing to be ashamed about, and figured it still documents my fight career. As mentioned before–I went to Macao China the week before to attend the FURY FC event–and came down with some type of FLU. I was running a fever, diarrhea, and muscle fatigue limited my ability to train. I started to develop swollen lymphnodes, and the Doctor put me on 10 days worth of Antibiotics. I actually tried to pull myself out of the bout the day of the fight–but my Thai trainers were having “NONE OF THAT”…LOL!!!—so…rather than upsetting my instructors, I went ahead and did the best I could, with the circumstances I was given (kinda like Bonner giving in to the peer pressure today)
….In honor of Bonner–I decided I’d post my fight…because really—at the end of the day…I don’t fight for the critics. I don’t fight for the girls (though that helps). I don’t even fight for the money. I fight–because I love to fight–and I love to learn more about myself each time I step into the ring.
***ALSO***tonight two of my students are getting promoted to BJJ Blue Belt. I don’t wanna post who just yet—because it is a bit of a surprise and they aren’t expecting it =)
BBQ Beatdown has already started–I just wanted to update my blog before I left so I better get going~
