Oct 1st, 1913 Helio Gracie was born.  Master Helio would have been 100 years old today.  As a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt, and a person who has devoted his entire life to the Martial Art, I appreciate him for developing a martial art that would allow me the opportunity to challenge myself and master more than just the skill of fighting.  Everyday when I step onto the mat, I am appreciative Helio, and those after him pioneered the lifestyle of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu into such a manner that I could provide for myself a living doing something that I am passionate about and love.

Today when I finished my lesson, I gave Master Helio a moment of silence before stepping off the mat.
