Is this Construction—or destruction!?!?
Having lived in the Southwest of the USA, I’m use to immigrant workers. In Arizona, and California the illegal Hispanic labor force usually sits outside of a “Home Depot” or “Lowes” home improvement store, waiting for a customer looking for some cheap manual labor to drive by and offer them a job.
Here in Thailand, a majority of the labor force are Burmese nationals. It’s amazing to see these people work. The tools are less than “advanced”–often forcing them to dig with small gardening shuffles instead of legit digging supplies. Most of the workers are wearing shorts and flip-flop shoes while they hammer boards, lay cement, or bend re-bar, or dig trenches.
Construction on the street leading up to my house has been going on for almost 3 weeks. I’m not sure if they are “paving” the road, or if they are simply putting in a gutter for the rain water to properly drain off the road. I’m hoping that after all of this construction the road is actually paved and easier to navigate.
The entire month of construction has been a major headache. The road is very narrow…and this weekend when I was trying to leave–the only exit was blocked by the cement truck pouring cement. Instead of stopping what they were doing…they made me wait 20 mins until they finished pouring the cement. (even after me honking and flashing my lights) With all the debris from the construction, I’m constantly having to look at the ground while driving the motorbike…those tires get punctured very easily..and their is a ton of lose nails, sharp boards lying around.
I’ll be glad when this road is finished and the workers have left!!
