I have given out my second Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Purple Belt…

Congratulations to Tommy Yang who following the Jeff Glover seminar was recognized as achieving the rank and standards of a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Purple Belt.

Tommy began his training in 2005 while living in Korea—and has been a Blue Belt since 2009.  Arriving at Tiger Muay Thai from Evolve MMA in Singapore, Tommy was a 2 stripe blue belt.   Following 9 months of devoted training, I recognized Tommy with his 3rd and 4th stripes leading up to and immediately after the ADCC Pro Trials.

Winning the Abu Dhabi Professional Trails in Kuala Lumpur in both is weight class and the absolute divisions, his bronze medal performance during the finals in Abu Dhabi was considered a bit of a disappointment as he made it to the Semifinals only to lose via a ref’s decision.  Following time–the score was tied 2-2 with 1 advantage a piece…when the ref raised the opponents hand—the crowd responded with their displeasure.

Now that Tommy has a freshly minted Purple Belt around his waist…expect even harder training from the Big Headed Korean :)
