How does a homeless man spend his money?!
So yesterday I put up a tweet on my Twitter talking about a police officer in Peoria who wasn’t too happy when he saw me giving a small donation to a homeless man holding a sign.
The gentleman’s body was severely covered in burn marks, and he was holding a sign saying medical procedures have been expensive, any help is appreciated.
While the light was turning green, I tried to honk my horn to slip him a few bucks, when a police officer pulled up in the lane between us, rolling his window down and yelling at the guy for panhandling. While the light was green, I didn’t drive off, instead waving to the guy to come around the cop car and come close enough to my window so I could give him the donation.
The cop, for whatever reason was furious!! He started shouting at me, saying I don’t need to be supporting his actions. To which I reminded him it is xmas week–a reply that got a rude “I know what day it is reply”
The officer then went on to tell me he should write me a ticket for obstruction of traffic, and that most of the people panhandling have warrants out for their arrest, and only use the money for “heroin addiction”–to which I gave him a smartass reply…”well we all ask Santa for different presents”.
The truth, I could tell the guy was down on his luck, and going into the new year, I’ve really made it a resolution to start seeing the humanity side of living and giving back when I see opportunities of merit and worth.
Yesterday that incident happened…and today I found this video.
In the video the guy gives a homeless person 100$ and then secretly follows him with a camera to see what he spends it on. The. Idem was very heart warming, and shows the real human side behind falling on difficult times.
Watch the video, share the blog post, and give someone you love a hug this xmas weekend.
