Helping a Hitman get ready…
Well–this week has turned into a short week of training. I had to go to BKK Monday and Tuesday to sort out some Passport questions at the Embassy–which means my first day of training was already “Hump Day” Wednesday. Taught several techniques for defending against having your back taken during the morning grappling class. I only got in one roll this morning–the back of the knee is still a bit banged up from my Thai fight last week, and I didn’t want to put too much strain on it.
Afternoon training went well. Got in 3 good 5 minute rounds of boxing pad work with Kru Yod, and then a couple of rounds of boxing with Ian “Hitman” Bone. After the standup sparring we went over leg lock defense for the Achilles lock, kneebar, toe hold, and heel hook.
Ian has a professional record of 8-3, and is one of Australia’s top ranked Welterweights. He has spent the last month at TMT preparing for his Martial Combat fight June 17th against American Matt Delanoit. Delanoit is a veteran of over 20 Pro MMA fights and has fought some notable names including Ray Steinbeiss, John Alessio, Josh Neer, Ben Askren, Bobby Voelker, Shamar Bailey, Kevin Burns, and Justin Wieman. With a 10-10 record–Delanoit’s record is a bit misleading because of the quality of the opponents who have beaten him.
WEC Vet Muhsin Corbbrey arrives tomorrow, and will be joining Ian Bone, Joe Ray and Cyrus Washington as they finish out their last two weeks of training before they head off to Singapore. Should be a great event–those of you in Southeast Asia really should consider making the trip to Resorts World Sentosa Island to watch it :)
